Corrosion Resistance:

Inconel 600 flanges exhibit excellent resistance to:

  • Oxidation and scaling: Occurs at elevated temperatures.
  • Chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking: A concern in specific conditions.
  • Acidic and alkaline environments: Including nitric and sulfuric acids.
  • Seawater and various atmospheric conditions: Resistance in challenging environments.

Heat Resistance:

  • Maintains mechanical integrity at temperatures up to 1093°C (2000°F).
  • Resistant to oxidation and carburization in high-temperature environments.
  • Suitable for furnace components, heat exchangers, and gas turbines.

Heat Treatment:

  • Solution annealing is performed at 980-1150°C (1800-2100°F) followed by rapid air or water quenching.
  • Heat treatment enhances corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.

Welding:

  • Welding Process: Suitable for GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), SMAW, and SAW.
  • Filler Metal: Inconel 82 or Inconel 182 recommended.
  • Post-Weld Treatment: Generally not required but can be stress-relieved if necessary.
  • Characteristics: Produces strong and ductile welds with minimal cracking susceptibility.

Fabrication:

  • Readily fabricated by standard processes such as machining, forming, and forging.
  • Cold working enhances strength, while hot working is performed at 870-1230°C (1600-2250°F).
  • Requires carbide-tipped tools for machining due to work hardening.

Applications:

  • Aerospace Industry: Jet engines, turbine seals, exhaust systems.
  • Chemical Processing: Heat exchangers, reactors, condensers.
  • Power Generation: Steam generators, boiler components.
  • Marine Industry: Seawater piping, heat exchangers.
  • Nuclear Industry: Reactor vessels, fuel element spacers.
  • Food Processing: Equipment exposed to corrosive environments.
