Corrosion Resistance:

Monel 400 flanges exhibit exceptional resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and alkalis. It is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting in marine environments.

Heat Resistance:

Monel 400 maintains its strength and corrosion resistance up to 537°C. It can resist oxidation and scaling in high-temperature applications but is not recommended for prolonged exposure to temperatures above 600°C.

Heat Treatment:

Monel 400 is generally supplied in the annealed condition, enhancing its ductility and machinability. Annealing is done at temperatures between 926°C and 1038°C followed by rapid cooling.

Welding:

Monel 400 can be welded using conventional welding methods such as GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW. Filler metals of matching composition like Monel 60 are recommended to ensure corrosion resistance and strength.

Fabrication:

Monel 400 can be easily fabricated using standard machining processes. It requires sharp tools and slow speeds due to its tendency to work hard. The alloy can be hot and cold-formed with suitable precautions.

Applications:

  • Marine engineering: Valves, pumps, shafts
  • Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment: Equipment used in chemical processing and hydrocarbons
  • Heat exchangers and condensers: Used in various heat transfer applications
  • Oil & gas extraction and processing: Equipment for oil and gas extraction
  • Seawater equipment: Equipment used in marine and seawater applications
  • Acid production and storage equipment: Equipment for handling and storing acids
