What is  ASTM A209 / SA209?

ASTM A209 / SA209 specifies seamless carbon-molybdenum alloy steel tubes suitable for high-temperature service. These tubes are widely used in power plants, petrochemical industries, and industrial boilers. They are manufactured using a seamless process and can be hot-finished or cold-finished, ensuring superior dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties.

The key alloying element in these grades is molybdenum, which improves strength, creep resistance, and high-temperature performance.

Grades Available

  • Grade T1
    A standard seamless carbon-molybdenum alloy steel tube with carbon content of 0.10–0.20%.

  • Grade T1a
    This seamless alloy steel tube has a slightly higher carbon content of 0.15–0.25%, offering increased strength for demanding applications.

  • Grade T1b
    Designed with a maximum carbon content of 0.14%, this grade provides an excellent balance of strength and corrosion resistance.
