Corrosion Resistance

ASTM A182 F310S provides excellent resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and high-temperature corrosion. The low carbon content prevents sensitization, ensuring long-term resistance to intergranular corrosion in welded structures.

Heat Resistance

F310S is suitable for continuous service at up to 1150°C (2100°F) and intermittent use up to 1035°C (1900°F). It maintains mechanical strength, scaling resistance, and structural stability in thermal cycling and high-temperature oxidizing conditions.

Heat Treatment

  • Solution Annealing: 1040°C to 1150°C followed by rapid water or air quenching.

  • Purpose: Restores corrosion resistance and mechanical properties after fabrication or welding.

  • No PWHT Required: Typically not necessary due to the austenitic structure.

Welding

ASTM A182 F310S can be welded using TIG, MIG, and SMAW techniques with fillers like ER310S. Low carbon minimizes carbide precipitation, reducing the risk of sensitization in heat-affected zones.

Fabrication

  • Can be hot worked or cold worked using conventional methods.

  • Hot Working Temperature: 975–1175°C

  • Cold Working: Requires higher forces than standard 304/316 stainless steels.

  • Post-Fabrication Solution Annealing recommended to restore full corrosion resistance.

Applications

  • Furnace Parts & Heat Treatment Equipment

  • Chemical & Petrochemical Processing

  • Boilers, Heat Exchangers, and Retorts

  • Aerospace & Gas Turbine Components

  • Marine & Offshore Applications

  • Laboratory and High-Temperature Vessels

  • Pulp & Paper Industry Components
