ASTM A815 CR410
ASTM A815 CR410 Martensitic Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
ASTM A815 CR410 refers to martensitic stainless steel pipe fittings produced according to the ASTM A815 specification, which covers wrought ferritic, austenitic, and martensitic stainless steel fittings for pressure applications.
Grade CR410 (UNS S41000) is a 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel known for its high strength, hardness, and moderate corrosion resistance. These fittings are typically used where good mechanical properties and oxidation resistance are more critical than superior corrosion resistance.
ASTM A815 CR410 fittings are widely used in steam and gas turbines, oil & gas refineries, automotive components, and heat exchangers, offering excellent performance under elevated temperatures and moderate corrosive environments.

Corrosion Resistance
ASTM A815 CR410 fittings provide moderate corrosion resistance in:
Atmospheric conditions and freshwater
Mild acids, alkalis, and steam
Oil & petroleum processing environments
The grade is not recommended for chloride or highly acidic conditions. Corrosion resistance can be improved through polishing, tempering, and passivation treatments.
Heat Resistance
Resistant to oxidation and scaling up to 650°C (1200°F).
Retains mechanical strength and hardness at elevated temperatures.
Avoid prolonged exposure between 400–600°C to prevent embrittlement.
Heat Treatment
Annealing: 815–900°C, followed by slow furnace cooling.
Hardening: 925–1010°C, followed by air or oil quenching.
Tempering: 150–370°C for desired hardness and mechanical strength.
Proper heat treatment improves both toughness and corrosion resistance.
Welding
Good weldability using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), or SMAW (Stick) methods.
Preheat: 200–300°C; Post-weld tempering: 650–750°C recommended.
Filler materials such as E410 or E309 should be used for best performance.
Avoid rapid cooling to prevent cracking.
Fabrication
Good machinability in the annealed condition.
Forming operations should be done at elevated temperatures.
Magnetic in all conditions and easily polishable.
Stress relieving recommended after heavy machining or forming.
Applications
Steam and Gas Turbine Components
Oil & Gas Processing Equipment
Heat Exchangers and Boilers
Pump & Valve Components
Automotive Exhaust Systems
Power Generation Equipment
