ASTM A815 WPS39274
ASTM A815 WPS39274 Super Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
ASTM A815 WPS39274 refers to duplex stainless steel pipe fittings produced under the ASTM A815 standard, which covers wrought ferritic, austenitic, and duplex (austenitic/ferritic) stainless steel fittings for pressure applications.
Grade WPS39274 (UNS S39274) is a super duplex stainless steel known for its outstanding mechanical strength and superior corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. It offers a balanced microstructure of austenite and ferrite, providing excellent resistance to pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking — even in chloride-rich and acidic conditions.
Key Features
Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking.
High yield strength — nearly twice that of conventional austenitic stainless steels.
Superior resistance to chloride-rich and acidic environments.
Excellent weldability and formability.
Long service life and reliability in extreme conditions.
Exceptional toughness and durability at both high and low temperatures.

Corrosion Resistance
ASTM A815 WPS39274 fittings exhibit outstanding corrosion resistance in:
Chloride-enriched environments (sea water, brine systems).
Sulphuric and Phosphoric acids.
Oxidizing and reducing chemical media.
Pitting and crevice corrosion conditions.
They retain high resistance to stress corrosion cracking, making them suitable for offshore and subsea applications.
Heat Resistance
Retains mechanical properties up to 315°C (600°F).
Excellent oxidation resistance at moderate temperatures.
Maintains strength and toughness even under fluctuating thermal conditions.
Heat Treatment
Solution Annealing: 1100–1150°C followed by rapid quenching in water or air.
Heat treatment helps to restore duplex microstructure and corrosion resistance.
Not hardenable by heat treatment processes.
Welding
Excellent weldability using GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), or GMAW (MIG) methods.
Use of low heat input recommended to maintain duplex phase balance.
Post-weld heat treatment can enhance corrosion resistance.
Filler metals: ER2594 or equivalent are recommended.
Fabrication
Good machinability and cold formability.
Moderate forming pressure required due to high strength.
Avoid overheating to maintain duplex structure integrity.
Compatible with standard forming and bending equipment.

Oil & Gas Refining and Offshore Platforms
Chemical and Petrochemical Industries
Desalination and Water Treatment Plants
Heat Exchangers and Pressure Vessels
Marine and Pulp & Paper Industries
