Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 600 offers exceptional resistance to:

  • Oxidizing & reducing environments

  • Chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking

  • Organic & inorganic chemicals

  • High-purity water systems

  • Sulfur compounds & oxidation at high temperatures

  • Hydrofluoric acid & alkali solutions

It is extensively used in marine, chemical, and aerospace environments.

Heat Resistance

  • Performs efficiently in temperatures up to 2150°F (1176°C)

  • Excellent resistance to oxidation & scaling

  • Strong resistance to carburization and nitridation

  • Works efficiently in cryogenic conditions as well

Heat Treatment

  • Annealing Temperature: 870°C – 980°C

  • Cooling Method: Air cooled / Water quenched

Heat treatment enhances ductility, stress relief, and overall forming characteristics. Inconel 600 is not strengthened by heat treatment, only by cold working.

Welding

Inconel 600 is easily weldable using:

  • TIG (GTAW)

  • MIG (GMAW)

  • SMAW

Notes:

  • No preheat required

  • Use filler metals such as Inconel 82 or Inconel 92

  • Weld joints exhibit high strength and corrosion resistance

Fabrication
