Corrosion Resistance
MSS SP 75 WPHY 60 fittings exhibit moderate corrosion resistance due to their carbon steel composition. They perform well in environments where internal coatings or cathodic protection is used. For enhanced corrosion resistance, external surfaces can be painted, epoxy coated, or galvanized.
Heat Resistance
These fittings can withstand moderate to high temperatures, maintaining structural integrity up to approximately 600°F (315°C). Beyond this, suitable post-weld heat treatments may be required to maintain mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment
WPHY 60 fittings are generally normalized or quenched and tempered to achieve the desired mechanical properties. This enhances strength and toughness, ensuring reliability in pressure-containing service.
Welding
MSS SP 75 WPHY 60 fittings offer excellent weldability with conventional welding methods such as MIG, TIG, and SMAW. Proper preheating and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) are recommended to minimize residual stress and avoid cracking.
Fabrication
The material can be easily fabricated using hot or cold forming techniques. During fabrication, appropriate heat treatment must be applied to restore mechanical properties.
