Corrosion Resistance

MSS SP 75 WPHY 65 fittings exhibit moderate corrosion resistance due to their carbon steel composition. To enhance resistance in aggressive or moist environments, protective coatings such as black paint, epoxy, or galvanization are applied. For more severe corrosive conditions, internal lining or external coatings can be provided.

Heat Resistance

These fittings maintain mechanical stability and tensile strength under elevated temperatures up to 600°F (315°C). However, for continuous service above this temperature, proper post-weld heat treatment is recommended to retain ductility and toughness.

Heat Treatment

  • Normalizing: To refine grain structure and improve toughness.

  • Quenching and Tempering: To enhance mechanical strength and hardness.

  • Stress Relieving: To reduce residual stresses after forming or welding.

All fittings undergo appropriate heat treatment as per MSS SP 75 and ASTM A860 requirements.

Welding

MSS SP 75 WPHY 65 fittings are readily weldable using conventional processes such as MIG, TIG, and SMAW. Proper preheating (150–200°C) and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) are recommended to minimize weld stress and avoid cracking.

Fabrication

These fittings can be fabricated through hot forming or cold forming processes. During forming, the material retains its strength and toughness, and subsequent heat treatment ensures compliance with mechanical property requirements.
